Saturday night’s Love4Gambia Silent Auction and African Soirée was a smashing success! Approximately 60 people came out to enjoy good company, food, wine and the cool vibe of the Tooth Gallery, as well as to bid on a variety of auction items. DJ Gregg added to said vibe by spinning great music throughout the evening.
All of the over 20 auction items sold – some for more than their retail value! For example, the Ottawa Senators Playoff tickets valued at $200 sold for $240 and the Lululemon yoga starter kit valued at $100 went to Yogi B. for $110. One hour massage therapy with Paula of Balance and Motion worth $85 was purchased for $100. This is an indication of the tremendous support from the community for Love4Gambia – not just from all our fantastic donors who provided the amazing auction items, but also to all the buyers who showed their support through their generosity. Thank to all who donated and came out to the event!
A number of people were invaluable in making this evening such a success. First, thanks is due to Dr. Jill Taylor of the Tooth Gallery/Jill Taylor Dentistry, who made the unique venue available to us. Jill’s incredible team was also on hand during the evening and a special thanks goes to Kathryn, dental hygienist extraordinaire, who worked tirelessly to help sell tickets, set up, clean up and keep everything organized throughout the evening. Dr. Jill was also on hand to help and to sell tickets at the door. Gregg received loads of compliments for the music and was behind the computer all night to keep the crowd entertained. Marc served up the drinks and is generously donating all tips to Love4Gambia. But his support goes far beyond this, as he has been taking care of things on the home front while I’ve been busy organizing the event.
A quick tally of revenues and expenditures done at 1:30 a.m. today indicates that we raised a grand total of – wait for it – $3500 for the Nova Scotia – Gambia Association! These funds will support life-saving health education programs for kids in the Gambia. And this show of support from our amazing community will be a tremendous motivator for me as I run across the Gambia this summer.
