Erin Poirier of Halifax, NS was the first documented runner to run all the way across the nation of The Gambia in July of 2011 as part of Team Love4Gambia 2011.  Erin and her 4 person team of Ashley Sharpe, Pa Modou Sarr, Kebba Suso and Dodou Bah reached the Atlantic Ocean on July 26, 2011.  Read more about Pa Modou, Kebba and Dodou here.

Erin first developed her passion for Africa as an 18-year-old nursing student, when she traveled to Zimbabwe as a volunteer with World University Service of Canada (WUSC).  Eight years later, she returned to Africa to volunteer with the Nova Scotia-Gambia Association’s (NSGA) Peer Health Education Program. She spent six weeks educating and empowering Gambian teachers and youth with the knowledge necessary to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and Malaria in the tiny West African nation. She has served on the NSGA’s Board of Directors since 2008.

Erin began running as a teenager to stay fit for high school basketball. She trains with the Halifax track club, Cliff’s Antiques. Love4Gambia 2011 was the crowning achievement of her running career.
